Your task again this week is to do a black and white still life drawing. But this week I would like you to do a still life of 2-3 vegetables or fruit of your choice.
The first skill you are practising is the skill of observation by precisely observing the light and shadows as they fall on, and are cast by, your chosen objects. As you will have multiple objects this week, please set them up so that the shadow from one object is cast upon another.
The second skill you are practising is rendering, as accurately as possible, your observations using the cross-hatching technique.
Please remember to gradually build up your forms and tones - don't begin with an outline and dark tone. Edges will be created by the contrast of tones, and dark tones will gradually be built up with layers of cross-hatching rather than pressing harder.
You will find some examples for you to look at below of still lifes using more than one object.
