This week your task is to do a black and white still life drawing of one vegetable or fruit of your choice.

The first skill you are practising is the skill of observation by precisely observing the light and shadows as they fall on, and are cast by, your chosen object.

The second skill you are practising is rendering, as accurately as possible, your observations using the cross-hatching technique.

Please remember to gradually build up your forms and tones - don't begin with an outline and dark tone.  Edges will be created by the contrast of tones, and dark tones will gradually be built up with layers of cross-hatching rather than pressing harder.

You will find some examples for you to look at below.
